Academic Report For 2010

2010 was a hectic but rewarding year for the academic sector of JCUMSA.

The year began with a request from the Australian Medical Council for JCUMSA's input into the  10 year accreditation of the JCU School of Medicine. This was an excellent opportunity for the rapidly growing cohort of medical students to provide an open and honest assessment of the medical progam at JCU, in the form of a written submission as well as a personal meeting between student representatives and AMC members.

During the year, JCUMSA was able to keep students represented and informed on issues including exams, written assignments, "sign-in sheets" and changes of policy (including travel reimbursement). Our student representatives on various School Committees, including Board of Studies, Assessment and Professionalism Committes, work hard to advocate for students.

Our input into these Committees proves integral in helping to address issues such as feedback about results and content of exams, as well as student facilities. One of our many achievements this year was the removal of compulsory sign-on sheets, which has been a long journey for JCUMSA, but was achieved in 2010 (with the exception of 1st year and guest lecturers.)

JCUMSA and its team of passionate advocates for academic issues looks forward to a fantastic 2011.
